People’s protest: Demanding Justice for Forbesganj Victims

New Delhi, 19 July 2011:A joint protest held at Bihar Bhawan in New Delhi has demanded swift justice for the innocent victims of the brutal Police firing in Forbesganj and to conduct CBI inquiry into the incident. The protest was organised by several civil, human rights and social organisations today.Briefing the present status of the incident, Syed Akhlak Ahmad, representing the Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR) said, “all the culprit police officials including S.P. Garima Malik, S.D.O. and S.H.O. are roaming free and are still on duty. No action has been taken against them by Nitish Kumar's Government in Bihar till now. Three FIRs against 3000 villagers have been registered by the Forbesganj police under sections 302, 307, 348, 27 of the Arms Act etc. But no FIR has been registered so far against the culprit police officials. Family connections of Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi with the culprit factory owner are influencing the case and this is one of the reasons the state government's inaction.”He warned Nitish Goverrnment, “Don’t make a second ‘Gujarat’ in Bihar. He added, “instead of spending a large amount of public funds on media for promoting and publicizing his party and government, Nitish government should spend it on public welfare and civic amenities, for promoting justice and uplifting the lifestyle of the public. Nitish should not act as an agent of the saffron parivar and corporate interests."Mr. Mohammad Azharuddin, President of the Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO), Mr. Intizar Naeem, Asst. Secretary of the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) said, “this anti-Minority violence is not new for Bihar,. Earlier, too, this state has witnessed the Bhagalpur riots and now Nitish government seems to be once again creating the communal atmosphere in the state.” Mr. Navaid Hamid, General Secretary of the All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mashawarat (AIMMM) The protesters made the following demands:

1. To order CBI enquiry of the whole episode;
